ROME, OPEN CITY (1945)
“During the Nazi occupation of Rome in 1944, the Resistance leader, Giorgio Manfredi, is chased by the Nazis as he seeks refuge and a way to escape.” First film in Roberto Rossellini’s World War 2 trilogy, along with Paisan, and Germany Year Zero. A fascinating look at Italian cinema. Literally filmed in areas the Allies were still occupying post war in Rome. Really genuine and affecting, worth it for the history alone.
HBO Max.
