One of the gnarliest pedals on the market, the WMD Geiger Counter (with Bass Mod version) delivers bit crush and fuzz effects for synths, guitars, drum machines, and more. Take a listen to me mess around with it for a while.

This week's project is my buddy's 2021 Epiphone SG Bass. It plays well, but needs some attention, so I get it cleaned up, new strings, and test it out. Is the SG bass actually good?

The Baritele is my custom built Squier partscaster baritone Telecaster, consisting of a modded Telecaster Deluxe body from an Affinity Series Squier from 2022 (I think?) , and the neck from a 2023 Squier Baritone Custom Telecaster. It has red Active EMG 81 / 60 pickup set among other tasteful mods like taped up holes, dirty and finger gunk, and a pickup switch from an Epiphone. This guitar was inspired by one of my favs, Jim Root from Slipknot, and is my 4th completed build in the Midwest Coast Shop.

In this video, I take a Samick S-style guitar shell and turn it into a working guitar (sort of) while talking through the recent Fender lawsuit / cease-and-desist drama around Strat copies. Along the way I do my very first fret polish, wrap the headstock in vinyl, solder everything together, and finally plug it in to see if this “forbidden” Strat actually rips.

Showcasing my custom SG, built to look like a Guitar Hero 2 controller. My #3 Midwest Coast Custom build, "The Hog," is a Cherry Red 2007 Epiphone SG Special, featuring an all mahogany build, rosewood fretboard, upgraded hardware, and White GFS Vintage Extra Hot Humbuckers. Let's crank the fuzz and get some riffs going. Fun Fact: This SG is a 2007 model, the same year Guitar Hero 3 was released. Time to ditch the crusty old drop ceiling and upgrade the studio with black acoustic panels. I present a weekend worth of work in this satisfying timelapse montage, neatly packaged with some music, all for your enjoyment. This upgrade is not only aesthetically better, but these new panels with help with studio acoustics, less dust, and just overall better vibes. Shout out to Ben and Brian for helping out. Join me for a laid-back, hour-long sit & chat as I dig through my Reverb archive and revisit all the music gear I’ve owned over the years… and why some of it I’m glad is gone, and other pieces I still regret letting go. I break down what I liked, what I didn’t, and what ultimately led me to sell or move on from each piece. Since I don’t own any of this gear anymore, it’d be hard to do full deep-dive reviews on each piece, so this video serves as a collective retrospective with honest thoughts, lessons learned, and tips for anyone considering similar gear.
