“In early-18th-century England, the children of a village slowly become a coven of devil-worshippers.” I love the vibe and setting, but it didn’t go far enough to really pull me in. Wanted to like this more, thought it was just ok.

“Rising Hollywood star Matt Hagen descends into a horrifying revenge-filled monster when scientific ambition strips him of his identity and humanity.” I think the body horror and kills are pretty effective overall, but I just need a little bit more to connect this to DC and Batman other than just saying this is in Gotham city. I’m hit or miss on Mike Flanagan, but this is much better if he directs instead of just writing.
“Thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison, notorious Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move. What begins as an intimate portrait becomes a mind-bending three-year journey.” Absolute masterpiece, an absolute mind fuck, and probably the best movie of the year. The whole time you genuinely want to believe her, while trying to remind yourself that’s she’s famous for being a liar. It’s long, but riveting the whole time. Must see whether it’s in the theater or at home in a few months.
“Judd Apatow’s documentary on Norm Macdonald uses archival footage, photos, and home videos to chronicle the SNL legend’s career—from “Weekend Update” anchor to master of absurd, deadpan comedy whose influence endures.” This is basically a glorified clip show, but still really great. If you’re a fan of Norm, and how could you not be, this is still very much worth your time. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t tear up a bit at the end.
