“Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination, finds himself on a cosmic misadventure where he must form new bonds with alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be.” Another Oscar nominee checked off. I liked this, didn’t love it, but would still consider is B tier, Pixar. Still heart and great visuals, story lacked a bit for me. Disney+.
“When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target.” A little bit of a rollercoaster for me. I didn’t love the first bit, but it slowly pulled me in and I enjoyed it for the most part. The farther away I get though, the more negative I feel. It really hurts that they fired Melissa Barrera, and Jena Ortega decided not to come back. Neve Campbell returns, and it just didn’t feel like there was really anywhere else for her character to go. I have a couple other small complaints that would be spoilers, but I generally like all the scream movies in one way or another.
“Lonely residents of a tornado-stricken Ohio town wander the deserted landscape trying to fulfill their boring, nihilistic lives.” This might be the most off-putting movie I’ve ever seen. It’s narratively aimless, it’s disgusting, and just fuckin weird. It was shot in Nashville, but the premise takes a such a shot at Ohio, I’m not sure how to not be offended. I was reading reviews afterward and came across this gem: Werner Herzog praised the film and talked about being impressed by the bacon taped to the wall during the bathtub scene. You gotta search online to find this.
“A man becomes increasingly desperate when he realizes he is trapped in a subway station, needing to complete a mission to get out.” This is basically one of those dream sequences in a video game that’s just fucking annoying and you want it to end.
