MIKE & NICK & NICK & ALICE

“Two friends navigate the dangerous world of organized crime, testing their loyalty and survival skills as they get deeper into the criminal underworld.” This was a lot of fun. I love this trio together, and Vince Vaughn in anything. I don’t think this is quite on the same level, but it has major nice guys energy, and has some great action. On Hulu.

HELL IN THE PACIFIC (1968)

“During World War II, an American pilot and a marooned Japanese navy captain are deserted on a small uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean. There, they must cease their hostility and cooperate if they want to survive, but will they?” Minimal but effective with 2 great actors. I liked about 98% of this, but then it just ends, which is disappointing. There’s an alternate ending that’s much better. It’s wild to me that Lee Marvin has gray hair here, looks old, is 44, and he dies 19 years later at the age of 63. You can find this on YouTube.

RESIDENT EVIL (2002)

“A special military unit fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident.” Love the games, but I’ve always been mostly negative on movies. The first film isn’t terrible, it does its own thing and could essentially be something that’s going on adjacent to the games. Decent effects for the time, and solid zombie film in its own right.

OBSESSION

“After breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.” Absolutely insane and one the best horror movies of the year. Starts a little slow, but once it starts its doesn’t stop. Funny at times and creepy as hell. Horror is largely ignored at the Oscar’s, but Inde Navarrette is so good, she deserves a nomination.
