if you don't know what r/place is - this is basically a giant grid of squares that reddit users can change color one at a time. they have only done this twice ever - first, on april fools day of 2017 (they had it up for like 3 days) and again this april fools day (which lasted only 4 days). basically, different communities on reddit work together to make little pixelated works of art or sections. its pretty sweet to watch a hive mind at work.

big debate on reddit rn whether it should be an annual event, or every 4-5 years like the olympics.
