WAR AND PEACE (1965)
“The Russian aristocracy prepares for the French invasion on the eve of 1812.” Over 7 hours in length, and divided into 4 parts, this is quite a commitment. It’s without a doubt too long, and there are aspects of it that are more interesting than others, but the scale of the filmmaking is impressive. There are scenes with hundreds of people on screen at once, and is absolute chaos. There’s multiple sweeping shots that you wonder how they accomplished back then. Part 3 is the best. There also had to have been at least a dozen horses killed in this movie, insane stuff.
HBO Max.
